    Safeguarding Culture

At Juniper Hill School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do and underpins our strong, nurturing culture. We are committed to ensuring every child feels safe, valued and listened to, both in school and beyond.

All staff are highly trained to recognise and respond to concerns swiftly and effectively, with clear procedures that prioritise the wellbeing of every child. We promote a culture of vigilance, openness and trust, where children are encouraged to share their worries with trusted adults and understand how to keep themselves safe.

Through our curriculum, assemblies and daily interactions, we teach our children about staying safe, building positive relationships and seeking help when needed. We work closely with families and external agencies to provide the best possible support, ensuring that safeguarding is a shared responsibility across our whole school community.

At Juniper Hill School, we recognise our responsibilities for and are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, and require all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment in line with Section 175 of the 2002 Education Act and under the Children Act 2004, the DfE Working Together To Safeguard Children guidance and the Keeping Children Safe in Education documentation.

This includes checking the suitability of all staff and volunteers; ensuring that we have effective procedures for identifying and managing all issues likely to cause significant harm to children; ensuring a safe environment in which our pupils can learn and develop; enabling our pupils to acquire the relevant knowledge and information; and working with other agencies as appropriate.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

Our aim is to create a happy, caring, nurturing school that is committed to the wellbeing of our children.

What to do if you have a safeguarding concern:

If you have a concern regarding a child in the school; record it and share the information promptly with a Designated Safeguarding Lead.

If your concern is regarding a member of staff, speak to the Headteacher.

If your concern is regarding the Headteacher, contact the Chair of Governors.

An animated guide to Working Together to Safeguard Children for children and young people

Working Together to Safeguard Children is guidance for all the different people who should work together to help, support and protect children. This is a short, animated version of this guidance for children and young people which explains how people who help them work together and what they can expect when they ask for help.
