Pioneer Centre Residential Trip

We rolled up to the Centre full of excitement and the faint hope that everyone had remembered their toothbrush! After a grand tour and room assignments, we tucked into lunch and then launched straight into our first set of activities.

After a hearty dinner and another activity, the children headed to their rooms. We thought they’d be exhausted. We thought they’d collapse into bed. We thought we’d get a peaceful night. Hahahaha! Instead, they chatted loudly until the early hours!  Breakfast the next morning was a parade of bleary eyes and slow blinks. Did it stop them? Absolutely not!

Tuesday was described by the children as “The best day ever!” Raft building, caving, abseiling and zip lines. The children tackled everything with gusto, bravery and the occasional shriek. To finish off the day, we gathered round the camp fire to sing silly songs and play games. A happy but finally tired Year 6 went to bed and slept soundly.

Wednesday brought more adventures, more laughs and more moments where the amazing children pushed themselves to be the best versions of themselves.

Our last full day began with a long walk into the village. The instructors were blown away by the children’s butterfly knowledge. We also saw a crooked steeple, built so quickly the wood warped.

The peak of the residential was when the children were let loose with exotic animals: owls, tarantulas, scorpions, turtles, tortoises and skunks to name just a few.

Our final day arrived with excited children. We loved spending time together, seeing the children shine outside the classroom, and watching them grow in confidence, courage and kindness.
